Edmonton - According to his itinerary, the prime minister will arrive at the Sikh place of prayer at 6:30 p.m.

Trudeau will visit the Gurdwara ahead of Edmonton’s Nagar Kirtan Sikh parade celebrating Vaisakhi this coming Sunday, his spokesperson Eleanore Catenaro said Monday morning. Vaisakhi is a historical and religious festival in Sikhism and Hinduism that  marks the new year.

During his visit, Trudeau will make a donation to the food bank at the Gurdwara, help prepare food boxes and bring a food donation.

Karnail Singh Bhamra, president of the Ramgarhia Gursikh Society of Edmonton, which is associated with the Gurdwara, said Sunday that nothing special is planned for the prime minister’s first visit to the Gurdwara.

Catenaro said Trudeau is always looking for an opportunity to be with the community in Edmonton, and because he couldn’t attend the parade he decided to make an early appearance.

“And Edmonton is a great place,” she said.
