BHAI MARDANA JI ON HIS 490th AKAL CHALANA ANNIVERSARY

Bhai Mardana Ji (1459-1534) had the privilege of spending all his life with Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji (1469-539), the first Guru of the Sikhs. He was born in 1459 in Rai Bhoe Ki Talwandi, in Sheikhupura District which is now in Pakistan i.e. the same place which is the birth place of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Being the birth place of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, this place is now known as Nankana Sahib.

Life and Teachings of SRI GURU RAM DASS Ji

 Sri Guru Ram Das Ji was born in Chuna Mandi Bazaar, Lahore (now in Pakistan) on September 24, 1534. The existing Gurdwara called Gurdwara Janam Asthan Sri Guru Ram Das Ji has been built at the place of the earlier Gurdwara in Multan Mohalla Kucha Jamadaran, walled-city of Lahore (Pakistan).

BABA BANDA SINGH BAHADUR JI: THE FOUNDER OF SIKH RULE

Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Ji (1670-1716), a brave Sikh warrior and founder of the Sikh Rule in Punjab was born on October 27, 1670 at Rajauri in Punchh District of Jammu and Kashmir. His early name wasLachhman Dev. His father Ram Dev Ji, a Rajput Farmer trained him in martial arts in early childhood.

Remembering Bhagat Kabir Ji: A Revolutionary Saint Poet

 Bhagat Kabir Ji's full name was Kabir Das. 'Kabir' in Arabic language means 'great` and the word 'dasa' in Sanskrit language means a slave or a servant. He is one of the medieval Indian Saints of Bhakti and Sufi movements whose compositions Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji included in Adi Granth Sahib. While compiling Adi Granth Sahib Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji included the compositions of 15 Bhagtas, 11 Bhatts and 4 other holy men. Out of the 15 Bhagtas Bhagt Bhagat Kabir Ji's contribution is the largest, 227 Padas in 17 Ragas and 237 Slokas.

CHHOTA GHALLUGHARA

The Sikh history of the 16th, 17th and 18th century is replete with atrocities impinged on the Sikhs by the Mughal and Afghan invaders and their descendents who ruled India.

In the blood-stained pages of Sikh history (i) Chhota Ghallughara (Minor Holocaust) which occurred during March-June 1746 and (ii) Vadda Ghallughara (Major Holocaust) which took place on February 5, 1762, in each of which 40,000 Sikhs were killed present examples unparalleled in world history. 

TEGH BAHADUR SAHIB: A PROPHET AND A MARTYR

 

Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib, the ninth prophet-teacher of the Sikhs was  cruelly martyred by beheading him on November 11, 1675 in Chandni Chowk, Delhi  under the orders of Emperor Aurangzeb. Besides martyring Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur  Sahib, Aurangzeb also passed orders that the whole family of the person who goes  near the deceased's body will be annihilated. 

SULTANPUR LODHI: A SACRED PLACE FOR THE SIKHS

The town of Sultanpur Lodhi which falls in the present-day Kapurthala District of  Punjab, is a sacred place for the Sikhs. Among the sacred places relating to Sri Guru  Nanak Dev Ji (1469-1539) the first prophet-teacher of the Sikhs, in addition to  Nankana Sahib, District Nankana Sahib (Pakistan), Kartarpur Sahib, District Narowal  (Pakistan) and Dera Baba Nanak, District Gurdaspur of Punjab this town is of paramount importance for the Sikhs.
