August 30, 2017 12:06 PM

Chandigarh: Ram Niwas, Additional Chief Secretary (Home), said here today that mobile Internet services, all SMS services and dongle services will remain suspended in seven districts up to August 30 in the state.

The seven districts where these services would remain suspended were Ambala, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Jind, Hisar, Fatehabad and Sirsa.

Mobile phone internet services in Kurukshetra and Jind were again suspended for 24 hours on Tuesday.

An official spokesperson said the step was taken as a preventive measure in the aftermath of violence at various places of the state after the conviction of Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.

However, no major incident of violence or protest was reported in Jind and Kurukshetra in the last six days. Data and messaging services in the state were suspended on August 24.

Various mobile phone service providers had resumed the data service around 11.30 am today.
